The Joy of Printing on the Platen, May 2-3

In this course students will the learn the basics of printing on the Platen Press. In this weekend workshop participants will create prints/cards/ephemera from handset type and supplied magnesium cut using the platen press. The focus of the course will be the fundamentals of printing on the platen presses. Students should be prepared with a small amount text prior to the workshop.

Students should come prepared to class with a Pencil and notepad for note taking. Students should also bring dish washing gloves, and short text to print.

 

About the instructor

Amber Braverman received her BA in Visual Arts and Economics from Oberlin College. She has been an active member of the Center for Book Arts NYC since 2003. She is the proprietor of Post Editions, a small press specializing in radical editions. Additionally she has worked and trained in many letterpress shops in and around New York. Her teaching style is combination of fine press and commercial printing. Amber has served as an instructor at the Center for Book Arts since 2005.
