Learn how to repair a beaten up or worn down hardcover book in this weekend intensive class with Sophia Kramer. Students will learn the basics of reattaching boards, spine and paper repair. Book structures and materials will be discussed. Students may bring their own book that they would like to repair, or they can work on a worn book provided by the Center. No experience required.
About the Instructor:
Sophia Kramer is a bookbinder and conservator who discovered bookbinding in 1991. She studied printmaking and book arts and received a masters in book and paper conservation in 2003. She has worked for private bookbinders and conservators, at an edition bindery in Minneapolis, and taught cloth book repair in London. She finds all styles of bindings beautiful and enjoys bringing books back to life.
